When we hear the word “hero,” we may picture someone wearing a military uniform, a police officer responding to danger, a firefighter running toward an emergency, or an EMS professional providing care during someone’s most frightening moments.

Those people are unquestionably heroes—but heroism can take many forms.

A local hero is someone who serves, protects, supports, or strengthens their community.

Service Takes Many Forms

Local heroes include the men and women who have served our country in the Armed Forces, as well as those who continue serving their neighbors through law enforcement, fire and rescue, and emergency medical services.

They are also the volunteers who donate their time, the community servants who help families find the resources they need, and the ordinary people who step forward when someone needs a helping hand.

Some heroes wear uniforms. Others may never wear a badge or receive public recognition. What they share is a willingness to serve others and make their communities safer, stronger, and more connected.

Heroism Happens Close to Home

Heroism does not always happen during one dramatic moment. Sometimes it is found in years of quiet, dependable service.

It is the veteran who continues supporting fellow service members after returning home. It is the first responder who answers another call. It is the volunteer who gives up a Saturday to help someone they may never meet again.

It is the neighbor who notices when someone is struggling—and chooses to help.

These acts of courage, compassion, sacrifice, and commitment deserve to be recognized.

Celebrating All Local Heroes

Welcome Home Heroes began with a commitment to honor and support those who have served our country. That gratitude extends throughout our communities to the people who continue answering the call to serve in many different ways.

Our 2026 event will bring veterans, military personnel, law enforcement, fire and rescue, EMS professionals, volunteers, community organizations, families, and neighbors together for a day of recognition and connection.

We invite you to join us as we celebrate the people whose service makes a difference every day.
